The Future of Buying Kicks

We have all had those moments, its early Saturday morning and all you want is to buy your kicks and go back to sleep. Instead, you go back to bed empty-handed, mad, and beaten by a Bot! Well Adidas and Nike are looking to level the playing field a little with their recently unveiled sneaker apps.

Adidas Confirmed

Last week “Adidas Confirmed” was introduced as a new and improved way for customers to get their hands on exclusive kicks. Adidas Confirmed uses your phones geo-targeting technology to confirm your location, and when exclusive kicks become available in your area you’ll receive a push notification. All you need to do is , hit the reserve button and pick up your kicks in store, it’s just that easy.

In a recent interview with Forbes magazine, Simon Atkins , Adidas VP of Brand Activation said :

“If you look at the landscape today in our industry, it can be very frustrating… People are faced with several issues that gets in the way of a seamless transaction. A lot of retailers use a lottery system in brick and mortar. A lot of people believe the system is rigged. Because of a live re-sale industry, a lot of people trying to game the system. We’ve tried to be the first in the industry to cut through all of that.”

Read the full interview here. It’s also no coincidence that the release of the Adidas Confirmed app coincides with the release of one of the most hyped sneakers of the year, the Yeezy Boost 750.

Nike SNKRS

Not to be out done by Adidas, Nike also released their “SNKRS” app last week. SNKRS looks to stream line your Nike kicks buying experience. It allows consumers to customize their feed on the app, so if all you want is information on Jordans and NSW kicks, that’s all you’ll see. The app also reduces the amount of time it takes to checkout. It gives you the option of having your size, address, and credit card information pre-set.

So which App is better ?

While both are steps in the right direction, it would be nice for Nike to use a location-based reservation system. We’ll see how well the Adidas Confirmed app works when the Yeezy Boost 750 gets a wider release later this month. What are your thoughts? Will these apps be the new way you buy kicks?

Our Get Fly Kicks team is always hard at work finding the kicks you want to wear, check out the latest Adidas and Nike kicks our Get Fly Kicks team found at the best price online.
Creative Recreation Back story!

Creative Recreation was founded in Los Angeles in 2002 with the sole purpose of designing footwear that fuses work and play. Inspired by the spirit of street art – with its bold creative expression and out of bounds thinking – Creative Rec doesn’t sit quietly or complacently on the sideline. We thrive in energy-charged environments, where statements are made and are unified by a single idea – that creativity matters.

Footwear for young professionals with style was no where to be found. Finally, two long time friends (To co-founders, Robert Nand and Rich Cofinco), who were already enjoying successful careers in the footwear industry, decided they would be the ones to change the game. Realizing that this generation was not going to follow in the same footsteps as the one before, Creative Recreation began their own journey. They realized early on, that being successful in today’s world economy did not require wearing a suit and tie. It was just the opposite. This generation is in control of its destiny. This generation is more creative and certainly more inventive in terms of recreation; thus the stylish sneaker was born.

There was a huge gap between kicks for play and well kicks for play in the professional world. This is where Creative Recreation comes in because they bridged that gap. There was the same old stuffy shoes for business, even business days that really did not call for stuffy business shoes. This is where Creative Recreation steps in and says you can now wear casual Fly Kicks for the work space during those not so professional days and in my case all the time.

What asked about their demographic this what Co-founder Robert Nand says: “The need to define a particular demographic. We don’t have a demographic, tells Nand. We want to be known as a company that makes footwear. We do everything we can to not get stuck in one demographic or another.”

Originality is a pillar of CR. How do you continually maintain originality?
Nand: We just do us. We don’t look to other brands to see what direction their going in. We just follow our own path and make shoes for us.

Check out the latest Creative Recreations our team has found that are now on sale!

Here you will learn 5 shoe lacing methods. Did you know there are almost 2 Trillion ways mathematically to feed a shoelace through those twelve eyelets!

Here I am going to show you 5 shoe lacing methods that will get people asking how you did it. In a world where everybody is trying to be unique, these 5 different Fly methods to lace up will give you that edge you need to Fly out. You are going to need it with you’re new Fly Kicks anyway. Some of the methods are easy and some are hard, these 5 methods were chosen because they look the Fly, and we here at Get Fly Kicks are always thinking of way to look Fly!

Once you are done reading you will have 5 new ways to Fly out you’re new Kicks

Let’s get to it, everybody know how to to tie their shoes right? Yes, even though we all use 1 of 4 different methods. Does everybody know how to lace up their shoes? Nope. Remember when you were a kid you would say “Mom can you do my shoe laces?” Most Kicks come the laces half done, we just finish what was started. Everybody does the original Criss Cross Lacing method so this one will not count, since it is probably the way your kicks are laced up already. Drum roll please…

#5. Straight Bar

Best on: Low/Mid/Casual

Also referred to as “Lydiard Lacing” or “Fashion Lacing”, this variation of Straight Lacing eliminates the underlying diagonals, which looks neater plus relieves pressure on the top ridge of the foot.

Lacing Technique:

Straight Bar

• Begin straight across on the outside (grey section) and in through the bottom eyelets.

• The left (blue) end runs straight up on the inside, then straight across on the outside.

• Both ends run straight up on the inside, each skipping one eyelet and emerging two eyelets higher up.

• Both ends continue straight across on the outside and in through the adjacent eyelets.

• Alternate running up on the inside and across on the outside until lacing is completed.

Notes:
Straight Bar Lacing only works correctly on shoes with even numbers of eyelet pairs (eg. 8 pairs = 16 eyelets). This is because the lace must cross the shoe an even number of times so that the ends will meet and can be tied together. On shoes with an odd number of eyelet pairs (eg. 7 pairs = 14 eyelets), the lace ends finish diagonally opposite each other at the top of the shoe.

Despite this limitation, Straight Bar Lacing is VERY popular. This has led people to develop all sorts of ways to get it to work on shoes with odd numbers of eyelet pairs.

Full tutorial on using this method can be found here

#4. Spider Web

Best on: High Tops

Like an angled version of Ladder Lacing, this decorative method is also worn on military boots. The laces weave vertically and diagonally, forming an intricate “web”. This method looks pretty Fly on any kicks though. High To

Lacing Technique:

• Begin straight across on the inside (grey section) and out through the second-from-bottom set of eyelets.

Spider Web

• The ends run straight down the sides and in through the bottom set of eyelets.

• The ends cross over and run diagonally up and out through the next vacant set of eyelets.

• At each eyelet pair, the ends run straight down and feed under the vertical lace sections below before crossing over and continuing diagonally up and out through the next higher set of eyelets. Repeat until lacing is completed.

Notes:
• This lacing looks particularly effective on high boots with many eyelets, especially when contrasting laces are used.

• Tall boots with a very wide spacing between the sides display the maximum area of woven shoelace “spider web”.

Full tutorial on using this method can be found here

#3. Lattice

Best on: Any Style

This very popular method forms a decorative lattice in the middle of the lacing. The laces are crossed at a steep angle, allowing them to be woven through each other.

Lacing Technique (center only):

• Cross the ends on the outside and feed in through the set of eyelets three rows higher up the shoe (skip past two sets of eyelets).

Lattice

• Run both ends straight up on the inside and out through the next higher set of eyelets.

• Cross the ends on the outside and feed in through the set of eyelets three rows lower down the shoe (skip past two sets of eyelets).

• Run both ends straight up on the inside and out through the next higher set of eyelets.

• Cross the ends on the outside and feed through the set of eyelets three rows higher up the shoe (skip past two sets of eyelets).

Notes:
• It’s easier to do the weaving and get all the “Overs” and “Unders” correct if you firstly complete the left (blue) end, then weave the right (yellow) end in and out.

• Unlike most lacing methods, which can be run through as many eyelets as are available, the basic lattice at the core of this method uses six pairs of eyelets. For shoes with 7 or more pairs of eyelets, that lattice is extended with vertical passes or crossovers or with a gap in the middle.

• For 11+ pairs of eyelets, two or more complete lattices can be joined end to end.

Full tutorial on using this method can be found here

#2. Supernova

Best on: Athletic/Low/Mid

This one is pretty awesome, like two Starbursts on top of each other, one on the outside, the other on the inside. Needs the maximum length of shoelace and is useful for “shortening” long laces.

Lacing Technique:

- for even numbers of eyelet pairs:

Supernova

• Begin straight across on the outside (grey section) and in through the pair of eyelets just below the middle.

• Cross the ends diagonally upwards on the inside and feed out through the next vacant set of eyelets up the shoe.

• Cross the ends diagonally downwards on the outside and feed in through the next vacant set of eyelets down the shoe.

• Continue running diagonally up on the inside and diagonally down on the outside with progressively taller crossovers until lacing is completed.

Notes
This lacing method, like most decorative methods, is more difficult to tighten. Luckily, it has the advantage that the top is like a V-neck tee-shirt. Once the knot is untied, the top of the shoe can be opened wide to easily slip the foot in or out without needing to loosen or re-tighten all of the lacing.

Full tutorial on using this method can be found here

#1. Shoe Shop

Best on: Any Style

This what is used for photo shoots, music videos and store displays because many shoes come pre-laced this way from the factory. One end runs from bottom to top while the other end zig-zags through the eyelets. Sometimes referred to as “Factory Lacing” or “Single Helix Lacing”.

Lacing Technique:

• Begin straight across on the outside (grey section) and in through the bottom eyelets.

Shoe Shop

• The left (blue) end runs all the way up the inside and out through the top right eyelet (or top left eyelet for variation 2).

• The right (yellow) end runs diagonally up and left on the inside, then straight across on the outside. Repeat until lacing is completed.

• For variation 2, the right (yellow) end reaches the second from top right eyelet, then runs straight up the inside and out through the top right eyelet.

Notes:
The left and right shoes can be laced in reverse (mirror image) to end up with a symmetrical look.

Full tutorial on using this method can be found here

Here is some interesting history and current news about the Air Jordan Brand.

A Brief History – AIR JORDAN I

Air Jordans History, The Secrets Out, In 1984, in the wake of winning a national title at the University of North Carolina and a Gold Medal at the Olympic diversions in Los Angeles, Michael Jordan was chosen third by the Chicago Bulls in the NBA Draft. That year Nike additionally marked Michael to a five-year underwriting contract worth a reported $2.5 million (or more eminences). There was at first some doubt over the heavy contract being given to a problematic promoting thing, yet MJ was fast to prove the pundits off-base.

In 1985, Nike gave Jordan and his mark line of tennis shoes and attire an extraordinary logo – obviously, this line was made to be altogether different from Nike’s past b-ball endeavors.

Originator Peter Moore was given the errand of thinking of the first Air Jordan shoe. The Air Jordan 1 offered the Nike Swoosh on the mid board and a recently composed wings logo on the upper lower leg. The primary Air Jordan was comparable in outline to other prominent Nike models discharged in the 1980s, such as, the Air Force 1, Terminator and Dunk. The Air Jordan I emphasized a Nike Air unit for heel padding, cushioned froth lower leg collars for extra assurance and a toe overlay for added lockdown.

Despite that the AJ 1 needed innovation, the colors and social awareness set the tennis shoe industry on its ear. The Air Jordan 1 made ready for vivid ball tennis shoes. It changed the way individuals took a gander at sports shoes. Amid the 1985 NBA season, Michael wore the Air Jordan 1, which retailed for $65 – at the time, the most extravagant b-ball shoe available. The AJ I Black/Red colorway was banned by the NBA in view of standards in regards to shoe colors; Jordan was fined $5,000 for each amusement he wore them (Nike happily paid, as the fines made significantly more buzz around the Air Jordan 1). MJ’s youngster crusade brought about an All-Star appearance, Rookie of the Year respects and driving the Bulls to the playoffs after a four-year unlucky deficiency. Michael wore the Air Jordan I Red/White/Black as he scored 63 focuses against the Boston Celtics in the 1986 playoffs. Despite the fact that the Bulls wound up losing to the Larry Bird-drove Celtics, Michael demonstrated that he was one of the brilliant youthful stars in the NBA.

The Big Secret?

There was no new technology in the original Air Jordan 1 that made it any different from other Nike shoes, it was pure branding and marketing genius that took the Air Jordan brand through the stratosphere.

How big is the Air Jordans Brand to Nike?

According to a Forbes.com article by: Kurt Badenhausen

“Jordan earned an estimated $80 million last year from corporate partners Nike, Gatorade, Hanes, Upper Deck, 2K Sports, Presbyterian Healthcare and Five Star Fragrances. Other Jordan assets include six restaurants, a North Carolina car dealership, a motorsports team and his 80% stake in the Charlotte Bobcats. Jordan out-earns almost every member of the world’s highest-paid athletes 10 years after his last NBA game (Floyd Mayweather topped Forbes June 2012 list with earnings of $85 million).

The Jordan Brand, a division of Nike, is responsible for the vast majority of MJ’s earnings. Jordan partnered with Nike after being drafted by the Bulls out of North Carolina in 1984. The original five-year deal was worth $500,000 annually, plus royalties. The terms of Jordan’s current deal with Nike are a closely guarded secret, but royalties now generate more than $60 million annually for MJ, according to sources.

Nearly 30 years later, the brand is still a marketing juggernaut. It controlled 58% of the U.S. basketball shoe market in 2012, according to research firm SportsOneSource. The Jordan Brand’s parent, Nike, was second with a 34% share, while Adidas (5.5%), Reebok (1.6%) and Under Armour (0.6%) divvied up the leftovers.” You can read the entire article here

What the Casual Sneaker Says & Doesn’t Say About You

There was a time in history when Kicks only served one useful function, to exercise in or play tennis. That was it, no more, no less. Jump to the year 2015 and you now see prominent billionaires, celebrities, athletes (Off the field smart Ass), businessman/women, CEO’s, entrepreneurs, tech gurus etc… Anybody who shouldn’t be wearing casual sneakers, are well, wearing them. Not just wearing them, but wearing them to board meetings, Sales pitches, work, parties, formal dinners etc… Why? What does that say about you, someone who wears casual sneakers everywhere?

I think you will be happily surprised to find out what it says about you!

You know that amazing feeling you have deep inside about yourself right before you leave the house? After you have looked in the mirror (full body mirror for an overview of the outfit) and see you look nice, sharp, you feel confident and ready to go tackle the world. Confidence, this my friend is what matters more than anything else when it comes to how you dress, your confidence!

Your confidence defines how people perceive your appearance, if you look confident in what you’re wearing, people will have confidence in you!

If you follow these simple rules then you will not have any problems wearing your causal sneakers (fly kicks) anywhere, and only exuding confidence and professionalism.

Use common sense, this is probably the best advice I can give you. Obviously if you are going for an interview as a financial analyst at a big firm or as a real estate agent at a prominent Realtor it is probably not a good idea to where any kicks, since this is frowned upon. When your told to dress business formal or business casual there are rules to follow. Now, if you own the business in question and your going to a client meeting or pitch, wear whatever you want! Remember, you write your own ticket and draw outside the lines. This is why you’re a business owner. Once again use common sense.

Here are the rules of thumb that will keep you safe:

Interview – always ask what is the expected attire – Business formal/casual or just casual (Tech jobs hate ties, sales positions usually call for it)

Business meetings/pitches – if you work for the company just make sure you are up to speed with the employee handbook. Check what it says about attire when attending meetings in or out of the office.

This also depends on your position, if you are the VP of new Business Development, I am pretty sure a tie and some Oxford shoes are called for. If you are the Senior Web Developer a nice pair of casual kicks might just fit the bill.

Always ask, it never hurts to ask.

If you’re the owner/founder/partner/ninja/guru, wear it nice and proud, you’ve earned it!

Formal/informal social events – unless it specifies a black tie event (Want to really stand out, wear some kicks with your tux), in my opinion you can pair up your casual kicks with a sports jacket or any other nice attire and look just as nice as anybody else at the event. Wear it with confidence and be yourself. If you wear it and are unsure, then this is the vibe you will put out.

Keep it simple, clean and not loud. (Don’t wear hot lime green kicks so they scream I am wearing kicks, pair it up so it matches)

Last but definitely not least, NEVER and I mean NEVER wear dirty kicks, I do not care if they are $500 Gucci kicks, if they are dirty they might as well be from the 2nd hand store and only cost $1! Stay sharp!

Well there you go, basically unless it is specified that you cannot wear casual sneakers, then you can wear casual sneakers whenever you want. If somebody sneers at you for it, just say, “look it’s not my fault I have the confidence to pull it off and you don’t!”
